The Journey Continues

In this journey I am looking at what the experts say as it applies or does not apply to educational spiritual leadership. Another book that has influenced my thinking is, The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom, Don Miguel Ruiz speaks of a way of life that embraces spirit and honors all the spiritual masters who have taught on the earth. This book is subtitled a Toltec Wisdom Book. The Four Agreements are as follows:
1.      Be Impeccable With Your Words
2.      Don't Take Anything Personally
3.      Don't Make Assumptions
4.      Always Do Your Best
In the first agreement we are to be careful of what we say because once it is out there in the universe it can do harm or good. So we need to use the power of our words in the path of truth and love. In the second agreement, we need to realize that what others say and do is their reality and not ours. We need let go of trying to control or worry about that and it will free us from needless suffering. This has been especially hard for me as I do tend to take things personally. By following this simple rule I can let go of clouded thinking. The third agreement is not to make assumptions. We need to communicate clearly and get to the root of issues. This is one agreement can rid one of the drama that often surrounds and consumes us. The final agreement completes the others and the leadership picture. If we do our best and realize that we can only do our best at any given time we will free ourselves of regret. If we lead with these four agreements we will truly be spiritual and happier leaders. Can it really be this simple?
